Hi, I'm Emily...

...and I facilitate spaces and conversations rooted in wholeness, that invite us to slow down and come back in to community, communication and connection; with ourselves, each other and the more-than-human world.

And how on earth did I end up here? When grief and loss knocked unexpectedly at my door at the end of 2015, I found myself in nature a lot. As a lover of words with a thriving a career in broadcasting, it was a time when they weren't anywhere near enough. So much of what I thought I knew of myself and of life, was shattered. Despite a strong and loving human support system, I felt achingly alone and utterly terrified. The depth of feeling that life seemed to be asking of me felt totally unknown territory, and in that desolation, the woods, the sea, that's where I found myself going with it all. Instinctively. Without really knowing why. Familiar I wonder?!

Living in a society that so often shames and wrongs these parts of ourselves, the natural world seemed to be able to hold me, or meet me somehow in the depth of all of it; the grief, wildness, rage, sensuality…So many of the things that we’ve been told not to feel, seemed to have some space to emerge in a way I hadn't been aware of before. And oh the irony, because it was by meeting myself in this place, in what felt like truly terrifying depths, I also began to meet peace, compassion and strength of a same depth and quality too.

And that's been my quest and question to the world ever since! How do we find spaces, places and people that help us feel safe enough to be in our wholeness? To honour and reclaim these exiled parts of ourselves, and welcome them back home. And the woods, the sea, the mountains, the rivers, the beaches, the sun, the moon; they embody and model it all. Our greatest mirrors and teachers. As Nature ourselves, why wouldn't we work together to understand ourselves and this wild world that we're a part of?!

with your one wild and precious life?"

...and the folk & practises that guide me...

These emerging flames of wholeness and belonging in all that we are, were fanned initially by sitting in Rachel Flemming's nourishing, fun and searingly authentic women's circles in Bristol. This way of being in the world, then went on to being hugely nurtured by my three years of trauma informed Ecopsychology & Ecotherapy training with The Natural Academy, working through their Natural Self model, and the framework of NatureWell, Natural Self Ecotherapy & Eco-Depth Practises. This training was  deeply infused by Person Centred psychotherapy, Gestalt psychology, the work of Bill Plotkin's Wild Mind Map, Gabor Mate's Compassionate Enquiry, Deb Dana & Stephen Porges work on Polyvagal Theory, and Dick Schwartz's Internal Family Systems. I continue tend to this now through my personal nature connection practise and IFS therapy. I sit in monthly supervision, both individually and with my peers, and also continue to presence myself in other soul enquiring and nurturing spaces, communities and practises, both as participant and facilitator.

After a Drama Degree at Bristol University and then over 20 years working as a broadcaster, intrigue in the tone, texture and style of our verbal and written communication has long been my jam! My love of music and dance, and my own personal yoga and movement practise, began to develop an increased curiosity in the language of our body. This has then led me to further embodied training in Shiatsu, Women’s Wellness Yoga & Total Yoga Nidra with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli and most recently Gemma Mallol & Crystal Zillwood's Elemental Body: EcoSomatics course. I also have a regular Ecstatic & Somatic Dance practise.

And woven through all of this is this essence of community; this sense of ‘my place in the family of things’. I'm continually guided by the power, ritual and simplicity of coming together, listening and sharing our stories. Whether that's been within my self, with my family of origin, my chosen family of friends, casts on stage, radio show teams and interviewees, building start ups, hosting and facilitating events, advice and consultancy for corporates and organisations, and now the one-to-one's and groups in nature that I sit in and facilitate; community at the heart of it all. Coming together and feeling safe enough to share the real truth of who we are, with all the discomfort and wonder that brings. What a way to be in the world!
